The Monsters' Sleepover

by Abby Tsao

Background: this story is from when there were only 7 monsters (Paintball, Splatter, Portrait, Paintbrush, Watercolor, Canvas, and Acrylic). Also, Splatter lived with Abby and the rest of the monsters lived with Katy.

"Oh Aunty Aunty Abby, I wish you would hurry up," said Splatter. Splatter was sleeping over at Katy's and the other monsters’ house, where Canvas, Paintball, Watercolor, Portrait, Acrylic, and Paintbrush lived too. They were all very excited.

Ding-dong! Abby and Splatter were at the door.

Canvas opened the door. "Hi, Splatter! We’ve been waiting for you! OMG you’re 3 seconds late!"
     "Oh no," said Splatter dramatically.
Katy and Abby rolled their eyes and smirked at each other.
Splatter came in and Abby left. There was an awkward moment when all the monsters just stood and stared at each other.

"Do you guys want to do Dance Central 3?" asked Paintball.
     “YEAH!" The monsters cried.

"Yay we won!" cried Paintball, Acrylic, and Canvas.
"Good game," they all congratulated each other, and many high fives were exchanged.

"Time for dinner!" Katy and Paintbrush called from the kitchen. Yum! What a nice dinner. It was steak, mashed potatoes, and string beans. Once everyone was done eating they started eating dessert. It was also yummy. It was hot fudge sundaes with lots and lots of sprinkles and other toppings. And a cherry on top.

"Time to get into your PJ's," said Katy.
"Wait! Wait! We have a show for you," said the monsters. "It's called 'SO LONG FAREWELL.' "
"Oh, no, not again," Katy and Paintbrush groaned.

     Clap clap clap!!

"Yay!" cried the monsters . "We did it perfectly!"
"Okay guys get in bed." Katy said.
"But we didn't even get into our PJ's," said Acrylic.
"Then do that," Katy said, looking kinda annoyed.

     "PILLOW FIGHT!" shrieked Canvas.
"You guys are crazy!" Katy poked her head in the doorway. "Go to sleep."
Soon they were asleep, too tired to play.
Cashew! Cashew! (That's how Watercolor snores)
     JUST KIDDING! They don't snore!
"Wake up Canvy!" said Splatter. Canvas rolled over.
"But it's only 4:30." Canvas said sleepily. "Go back in your sleeping bag."
"Actually, it's 4:27,” Splatter whispered, grinning, “and 22 seconds.”

"Now you wake up." Canvas giggled. "We're gonna play. Actually we're gonna have breakfast."
"Time for breakfast," Katy called. It was sausage, applesauce, and a choice of coffeecake, hashbrowns, or pancakes.  "Soon Aunty Aunty Abby will come and pick you up, Splatter," said Katy.

     "Awwwwww," said Splatter.
"Then let's hurry up and play," said Acrylic.
     "OK," agreed Watercolor.
"Hey guyettes, what do you want to play?" asked Splatter.

"How about Duck Duck Goose!" suggested Paintball.

"Yeah!" cried the monsters. After a few rounds they started running around wildly.

Ding-dong! Abby was at the door.  Since the monsters wanted Splatter and Linda to stay, none of them got up to get the door. Katy opened the door. “Hi, Abby.” said Katy.

“Hello,”  Abby said pleasantly. “Is Splatter here?”  she said half jokingly.

“Nope,” Splatter said from the other room. “I am not here.”

“Oh,” said Abby with a small smile on her face. “In that case I’ll just get her bags and go back home. Without her. You know, I just made a cake and I thought, maybe I could bring it. It’s sad to hear that Splatter isn’t here because you know how much she loves cake…”

“AUNTY AUNTY ABBY!” shrieked Splatter, running into the room. “I’m here!”

“Okay then, it’s time to go home.” said Abby. “Do you have your bags packed?”

“Yep,” Katy said because Splatter had ran off to play.

“Do you really have cake?” Splatter asked running back into the entryway where Abby and Katy were.

“No,” said Abby smiling, “but we can make one when we get home.”

“But I wanna stay,” Splatter whined.

Abby sighed. “Well you’re not staying if you’re whining.”

Splatter immediately stopped whining and said “I can stay?”

A laughed. “Well since you’re not whining, I guess you can stay for a little."

"Only for a little?" Splatter said.

     "Splatter," said Emma warningly.

"Fine," said Splatter. "But how long is a little?"

"How long is a little?" Emma asked, looking at Chloe.

"How about until lunch?" Chloe suggested.

"Okay, it's a deal." said Emma.

“YAY!” Splatter cried.  She ran back into the playroom where the her friends were.

“Wait,” said Paintball. “You're happy about going home?”

“Of course not silly.” Splatter said.  “I get to stay for lunch.”

     “Oh.” said Paintball.

“I’m going now, see you after lunch,” Emma announced coming into the room.

     “Okay.” said Splatter.

“Wow.” Emma commented as she put her shoes on. “I never knew that Splatter would actually want to stay.”

“Yeah, see ya.” said Chloe. She closed the door.

"Hey," said Splatter. "You know how Aunty Aunty Emma was talking about the cake she 'made'? Well maybe we can make one if Aunty Aunty Chloe lets us."

"I heard you," said Chloe. "That's fine with me."

So off they went to the kitchen laughing and talking excitedly to one another. But it was Portrait that knew what  to do first. She ran to the kitchen and opened a cookbook.

"Hey guys," she said excitedly. This is cake recipe."

"Yep," said Chloe, walking into the kitchen. "That's the recipe I always use."

All of the monster sighed of relief and Acrylic said, "Let's get started right now!"

     "Good idea." agreed Canvas.

So the monsters decided on the job they each should do and got working/baking.

When the cake batter was finally in the oven, they settled back down in the living room and played a few more rounds of duck duck goose. Then they decided to go swimming. "Aunty Aunty Chloe, can we go swimming?" asked Paintball.

"All right,"said Chloe."Just remember that the cake is in the oven and you don't want to burn it."

"We will, we will." The monsters promised.

"I'll be in here if you need me." said Chloe. Chloe was pretty sure that the monsters would forget that the cake was in the oven and accidentally let it burn. But she wanted them to learn a lesson so she didn't say anything when the oven let out a ding.

Paintbrush didn't know that Chloe was trying to teach them a lesson so after the oven dinged, she ran over to the backyard and said "Guys, I have some important news."

"Can you tell us later? Thanks." Canvas yelled.

"I guess, when it's already burnt." mumbled Paintbrush walking back into the house. She didn't want to take out the cake because the monsters might get mad at her; so she went back to her at work.

When the monsters were finally done swimming, they climbed out of the pool dried themselves and then played another round of duck duck goose. Finally, they remembered that Paintbrush wanted to talk to them. “What did you want to talk to us about?" asked Canvas.

"Oh, that." Answered Paintbrush. "It's too late now."

"What is it?" the monster chorused.

"So, I was trying to tell you that the oven had dinged. You didn't want me to tell you my news so I think it's burnt."

"Oh! I didn't know it was that important. I'm sorry we didn't want you to tell us where we thought fun more important life around us." said Portait thoughtfully.

"Let's bake another one!" cheered Splatter.

     "Uh, no way." Chloe answered.

     "Aww," said Splatter.

"Anyway," Chloe looked at her watch. "Emma will be here any minute now."

As soon as she said that, there was a knock at the door.

     Chloe opened the door.

     "Hi!" said Emma.

"Aww," whined Splatter. "Can't I stay for a little longer?"

"Here we go again," said Chloe...

THE END... for us
