Monsterland
by Katy Tsao
All monsters come from Monsterland. In Monsterland, everyone speaks Wiskaebil, the language of monsters. Some humans work there, and know the language. They are called “Unwiskaebilities”, and are not allowed to mention anything that goes on there, nor any translations. Full-grown monsters range in size from ½” to hundreds of feet tall. Larger monsters are often predators to smaller ones.
Monsters are born in litters of about/usually 3-25 monsters. In each litter, there is exactly and only one boy, and the rest are female. This is because the females do all the work raising pups, and males do nothing, so there are less.
As previously mentioned, regular humans do not know much Wiskaebil. But we do know that hello/hi is kley (pronounced clay), and purple is zomi.
Monsters love playing duck-duck-goose. It is played at almost every monster’s birthday party. Of course, the monsters are always thrilled and don’t get tired of it.
In Monsterland, there is no cake or ice cream. Monsters don’t cook or bake, they rely completely on nature. There is a plant called the Mesta Espelisis, which they call leke, pronounced leh-kay, that is very sweet and all monsters love. Some monsters have managed to bring some into the human world.
In the human world, monsters don’t age. That’s why they stay the same forever, unless they go back to Monsterland. The table below shows the age and grade they would be in, although they do progress through grades. And even though they don’t age, their minds continue to grow and be smarter.
